Program Summary for Dollhouse
They can be anyone you want. The Dollhouse is a very secret, and very illegal, place where wishes come true. Clients with the right connections and enough money can hire "Actives", people who have been programmed to perfectly fulfill the needs, and desires of their clients. The Actives are people who have chosen, for their own reasons, to surrender their bodies and minds for a five-year stay in the Dollhouse. Now they can be imprinted with any personality, skill, or even muscle memory. They can be the perfect companion, lover, spy, assassin; and when the job is done they forget everything. But something is wrong with the Active called "Echo". No longer just a blank slate waiting for her next assignment, Echo is remembering flashes of the lives that she has lived and the games she has played, and she is starting to wonder just who she really is... Dollhouse is a production of 20th Century Fox Television, Joss Whedon's "Mutant Enemy", and Eliza Dushku's "Boston Diva Productions".

Episode Summary:
Seriously one of the biggest surprises I've gotten from a show in recent memory.

I'm still reeling at how amazingly Dollhouse hid its biggest secret from us in plain sight the whole time. This show has surprised me before, but never like this.

You know, since the beginning of the show, Boyd always stuck out to me. He didn't really seem to fit in. He seemed to have morals and he didn't seem to really want anything from anyone. He was always the number two guy. Always supportive. Always the friend. The only redeemable character in the show.

Or so we thought.

The best surprises are the ones you don't see coming but make perfect sense in hindsight. This is one of them.

Finding out Boyd was the big bad, the mastermind, the founder of Rossum, the one behind it all... I was completely floored. It made perfect sense. We still knew next to nothing about his past after all. As Ballard said at the beginning of the season, "If you're pointing fingers, you should be looking at Boyd. I know why I'm here."

All this time we thought he was just supporting everyone, but really, he was manipulating everyone. EVERYONE. And we never noticed because he seemed to be so true blue. We assumed he had the best intentions. He stopped a rapist, save Echo on a number of occasions, always seemed to be on our side. We wanted to know his past, but it never seemed vitally important. There were always bigger questions.

Except there weren't.

On top of that, I was also surprised that Bennet was killed. Though I really shouldn't have been. I mean, Joss always kills the love interest. Wash, Penny, Ms. Calendar, Angel (sort of), Renee, Tara, Anya, Kitty Pryde... It always happens. I should have seen it coming. But once again, I didn't. I guess I didn't expect Whiskey to be the one to do it and I guess I was also just happy that Topher got the girl.

So even though technically not a lot happens in this episode, the few things that do are frankly mind-blowing. It has motivated me to rewatch the entire series to look for hints.

I am so sad the series is being canceled.
Episode Title:
The Hollow Men
Original Air Date:
January 15th 2010 (Friday)
Original Air Time:
NA (ET)
Episode ID:
02x12 -- Season: 2, Episode: 12
Program Network:
Fox - 60 minutes
Episode Summary:
Good enough for the end of the Dollhouse run, Did anyone else notice that Echo was dressed like Malcolm Reynolds if he was a chick? Totally a modified Browncoat getup. I loved it!

Apart from that the episode did what it needed to, brought the arc to a semi-satisfying close. Naturally there are still some things that I would have preferred clarified but Fox sucks the big one and didn't give them a whole lot of time to give as much attention as some things really deserved. I hope that just means Joss is leaving it open for a potential movie a la Serenity though.
Episode Title:
Epitaph Two: Return
Original Air Date:
January 22nd 2010 (Friday)
Original Air Time:
NA (ET)
Episode ID:
02x13 -- Season: 2, Episode: 13
Program Network:
Fox - 60 minutes
Episode Summary:
I have read a few of the reviews and we all seem to feel the same way: The show -as in the whole series- had so much to give; was brilliant in many ways but fell just short of the mark at the end.
However, there are the Nods of Excellence due to many.

Topher and Adele's scenes in the final episode were truly wonderful. Great credit to Fran Kranz for such an intricate portrayal of his character.

Victor - Enver Gjokaj - is due an Nod of Excellence. Not only for being Victor but for-as I've said before- out-Tophering Topher. Great work.

Harry J. Lennix as Boyd was such a scene stealer and his role left my jaw on the floor for quite a while!

Eliza Dushku was trememndous throughout the whole series. The *only* time for me where she didn't work for me was her meltdown scene with Sierra. I understand the context and what was going on but for me her acting fell short in those scenes.

I think Adair Tishler - Kid Caroline - is a brilliant talent. She's got quite a list of work!

I would like to continue but I'm too tired!

I really feel this was a great show that was never really given the opportunity to go in the direction it should have. I have *great* admiration for Joss Whedon and his talent and vision. I hope his next venture is Network free and sets the standard higher than ever.
If you've got this far, thanks for reading.
